“I’ll pick you up at ten,” Denia decided. “That gives me time to follow up on a couple things at the office. I’ve been calling OB doctors, nurse midwifes, the whole bit.”
“I can help with that, make calls,” Shea said. “Better than just sitting here. Come by around eight, we’ll make some calls, then go to the contest setup.”
“Okay. Talked me into it. See you then, Boss.”
“I thought I was Boss?” Barney said.
“You’re Boss One and Boss Two,” Denia pointed from Shea to Barney.
“That works. Okay. See you around eight. I’ll have coffee.”
“I’ll bring food. I saw what’s in your fridge.”
“Haven’t had a chance to shop.” He shrugged.
“Little thing called online shopping. I’ll teach you. See you tomorrow.” Waving, she strutted toward the door.
All three men watched her go out. A collective sigh escaped them all.
“She’s a great cop, who could break us into numerous fragments, and emasculate us one handed,” Matt said.
“Why are you telling us that?” Shea asked.
“A reminder. To the man foolish enough to cross that line.”
“Yeah,” the other two chorused.
“But what a way to go,” Shea replied. “Well. Enough lusting. We have work to do.”
“See you tomorrow,” Barney said. “Cause I know that you won’t be satisfied with phone calls and an art festival. You gonna be all up in my bidness….”
They exchanged a complicated handshake, ending in a chest bump.
